Description: TELECROSS Telecross is a free daily phone call made by volunteers to check on people who live alone and who may be disabled, frail or medically at risk. This service offers clients support in maintaining independence and security within their own home. Service is also available to persons who cannot speak. TeleCHAT TeleCHAT provides a free regular telephone call to people who would benefit from a social chat once a week. Sometimes it can be difficult for people to get out and living alone means they might not always have someone to talk to. HOME SUPPORT SERVICE This service, funded by the Australian Government Commonwealth Home Support Program, offers social support to people aged 65 years and over who are ageing, frail and isolated, as well as people with disabilities. COMMUNITY VISITORS SCHEME A regular visit by a volunteer can improve the emotional and physical well-being of an isolated person living in aged care or on a Home Care Package living in their home. A fortnightly visit by a volunteer can help brighten the life of an older person and help them feel more connected with their community. CLUBS AND BRANCHES The grassroots network of local Red Cross Clubs and Branches is extremely important in maintaining community services where they are most needed. Members get together to keep informed, participate in fundraising activities and to socialise. TRAUMA TEDDY A Trauma Teddy is a special bear knitted by volunteers and given to children and adults during traumatic times. Volunteers meet once a month for bear repair and to socialise. EMERGENCY SERVICES Volunteers are trained to provide personal support in evacuation and disaster recovery centres. Local volunteer teams meet regularly for training.
