Description: Local Court: The local court has criminal and civil jurisdictions. The local court determines other applications such as apprehended violence orders and appeals relating to driver's licences. The local court has limited jurisdiction under the Family Law Act 1975 to hear and determine family law matters. The local court can deal with applications such as property settlements and residence orders. District Court - In its criminal jurisdiction, the district court can deal with all criminal offences except murder, treason and piracy. In its civil jurisdiction the district court can deal with motor accident cases, irrespective of the amount claimed, and other claims from $100,001 to a maximum amount of $1,250,000 although it may deal with matters exceeding this amount if the parties consent.. Justice of the peace are available Tuesday to Thursday from 11am to 2pm.
