Description: The Aboriginal Heritage Office is a unique partnership of six local Councils in Sydney (Ku-ring-gai, Lane Cove, North Sydney, Northern Beaches, Strathfield and Willoughby) working to protect Aboriginal sites and promote Aboriginal history and heritage. It hosts the only Aboriginal Museum, Education Centre and Keeping Place in northern Sydney. The AHO provides training and employment opportunities for Aboriginal people, it showcases Aboriginal ingenuity, and it provides people with opportunities to learn about the Aboriginal perspective in the region’s history and landscape. The AHO provides: • Councils with technical advice during developments within the vicinity of identified sites and potential areas • education in the 6 Council area with free community awareness and education sessions for schools and community groups. • training to Council staff. • A Volunteer Site Monitor program.
