This database is intended for use by hospital discharge planners, community mental health teams, General Practitioners, non-government organisations, helplines, consumers and carers. The aim is to make information about appropriate accommodation options more easily accessible.
The Framework for Housing and Accommodation (NSW Health, 2002) identified the need for a coordinated statewide database of housing and accommodation support services in NSW for people with mental health problems and disorders. The Mental Health Association NSW Inc developed the database with funding from the Centre for Mental Health, NSW Health, and we are grateful for the assistance of a number of major service providers.
This is a developing project and the Mental Health Association plans eventually to include services for people with dual diagnosis (mental illness and substance abuse or mental illness and intellectual disability).
Whilst we have attempted to be comprehensive, we understand there are gaps in the database and seek the assistance of its users to help us fill those. If you know of any service that should be included on the database, please do not hesitate to let us know.
