Description: Voting is compulsory for all resident electors (there is no interstate or overseas voting). You are entitled to a postal or pre-poll vote if, on election day, you will be outside the ward or area, over 8 km from a polling place, travelling so unable to vote, unable to attend a polling booth because of religious beliefs, caring for someone who is ill or caring for someone nearing motherhood, unable to leave work. Postal voting is also available if you are unable to vote on polling day because you have serious illness or disability, in late pregnancy, or in prison. Download an application form from the website or request one from the Returning Officer, in writing, personally. Completed application forms are returned to the Returning Officer. The postal ballot paper must be completed before the close of the poll and received by the Returning Officer. Pre-poll voting is available during the 2 weeks prior to the election at locations known by your local council.
