Description: Voting is compulsory for resident electors (no interstate or overseas voting). You can postal or pre-poll vote if, on election day, you will be outside the ward or area, over 8 km from a polling place, travelling so unable to vote, unable to attend a polling booth because of religious beliefs, caring for someone who is ill or caring for someone nearing motherhood, unable to leave work. Download an application from the website or request one from the Returning Officer, in writing, personally. Completed applications are returned to the Returning Officer. The postal ballot paper must be completed and received before the close of the poll by the Returning Officer. Pre-poll voting is available during the 2 weeks prior to the election at locations known by your local council. The iVote voting system allows eligible voters to cast their vote online or over the telephone. iVote is not available for all elections in New South Wales. Information on all available voting options for an election are listed on each event's page (see website).
