Description: Merrylands Community Health Centre is a secondary outlet for the Needle and Syringe Program. Staff within this outlet provide a limited range of injecting equipment, provide sharps disposal services and facilitate referrals to primary NSP outlets. Merrylands Community Health Centre also houses an Automatic Dispensing Machine (ADM) and an Internal Dispensing Chute (IDC). The Needle and Syringe Program (NSP) is an evidence based public health program that aims to prevent the transmission of blood borne viruses such as HIV and Hepatitis C amongst People who Inject Drugs (PWID). The NSP is a free and confidential service that provides a range of injecting equipment in a variety of different settings including over the counter, automatic vending machines, internal dispensing chutes and outreach. NSP outlets also provide sharps disposal bins, safe sex equipment (condoms and lube), accepts needle returns, engages in needle clean-up and provides an NSP outreach service.
