Supporting Children With Additional Needs (SCAN)

Web: www.community.nsw.gov.au/DOCS/STANDARD/PC_100997.htm

A scheme funded by DoCS to assist children with additional needs who are enrolled in a preschool, occasional care or vacation care centre to have equal access with all other children to the service and progam activities. Eligible children include those from an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Background, from a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Background (CALD), children with challenging behaviours and children with a disability. Funding is available to help preschools and childcare services improve the way they support children with additional needs. Funding may be used to provide specialist training for staff, employ a support worker, improve library resources or buy equipment or books that are suitable for children with additional needs. If parents believe their child is eligible they need to speak with the Director or Co-ordinator of the child care service in which their child is enrolled. The Director or Co-ordinator will apply for funding.
